There are many reasons you may want to leave the US, particularly as a transgender person. To name a few:
Aside from not being in the US, Germany has several perks.
Good public transportation. For only €63 per month you can take local transport, and use the well connected transport system to travel throughout the country.
It is easy to get a visa. The German economy needs workers, and that works in your favor.
Human rights are the first article of their constitution.
Germany has the 5th highest quality of living in the world.
Most people speak English. You will need German for many things, but Germans are very kind about helping you learn the language.
Lower cost of living. Unless you choose a big city, you can expect rent to be around €500-700 per month.
Education is free. Other than a €200-350 semester fee, which also pays for your public transport ticket.
Strong labor laws. Full time workers get a minimum of 20 days vacation per year, with most people getting more.
Great nature and pretty architecture. Whether you are a city lover or a nature lover, Germany has something you'll love nearby.
Pathways to citizenship. After 5 years (depending on your residence permit type) you can start the process of gaining a dual German citizenship. This would allow you to live and work anywhere in the EU barrier free.
Perhaps Germany is not your first choice for moving abroad. That is okay. However, it is a very strong choice, and it can be a great gateway to living in Europe. Based on my own experience, I would personally recommend it to anyone looking to feel happier, safer, and more human. Not everyday I have lived here has been easy, but it has always been worth it.
